What wheels would it be correct to put graphite on the outside of? Is this only for the DFW and what is the effect if graphite is used on the outside of the rear wheels?

It will make they gray instead of black... On a track with a center guide lane I cannot think how graphite on the outside of the wheel would do anything. I suppose if you have a track with an outside guide (like a trough) then graphite may help.

One reason I asked the questions is I read a thread talking about it and didn't understand if there was a real plus to it.

Don't put graphite on the rear wheels at all. It will give the car a bad case of the wobbles. They need to have some traction to keep the car running straight. I speak from experience, that was a "back to the ol' drawing board" test.
