Ok, I did go back and read this forum to see if my questions have been answered. No joy.
Background: I bought pinewoopro.com Speed wheels this year and really liked the "Permacoating" of graphite on them. That was until I used some CA Debonder to get an axle clear of the bore. My fault using the super thin CA. It flew to the wheel bore. Live and learn.
Question 1: Does anybody know how they get that coating to stick to the wheel? I assume it is a CA glue mix or something similar since the Debonder broke it loose when water and alcohol did not. I was polishing the bores and trying that graphite hub trick.
Question 2: My District race was posting speeds that were running in the 224.9 mph range for a BestTrack 42'. The times were running 2.63 or better. Will polishing the tread help move the car from 2.70? I am using grooved axles with a CG of .75"
Final notes: I did break down and order The Block and the 30 minute DVD along with some other goodies. ___ explained why bending all the axles was a bad idea. I lived it on the alignment board. I learned a lot with the boards so far. Our District rules mandate that all 4 wheels must touch and roll. I did have the car rail hugging.
Thanks, Rick

Thanks, Rick The times quoted for a BSA race sound more like a BT 35'. The PDDR guys aren't running the times you quoted on a 42' BT.

It might be a 35'. They were claiming it was a 45'. If it is, we have somehow set new standards of gravity. Regardless, I am still interested in the wheel coating/bonding. Like I said, I learned a lot this year helping my little Tiger. He had blast designing the car and painting it. There was no doubt it his paint job.

I am so busted! They were the graphite coated axles. LOL.
As I stated before, I learned a ton this year. I quickly figured out that the Pro Wheel mandrel I got from DerbyWorx was trash. The main problem I found was that it was out of true by .020". I purchased the Pinecar one and though it was not as technically complex, it ran true. I found this out on my lathe.
I did indeed get the axle polishing kit. It's funny, I did not find you guys until just before the District Race. I changed the alignment as best I could the night before. You were dead on about the back slipping and sliding. I thought it was the wheel, but not why. Thanks for increasing my knowledge.

O.R. could you elaborate more on what you do to the tread? I put up a post but no one responded to that one.

cozybldr, You mentioned a graphite hub trick. Are you refering to burnishing the hub with graphite or something else?
X-Ring, We just sand the wheel tread with 600 grit briefly. We're certainly not pros though so I would love to hear what others do with this as well.

I was talking about was packing the inner hub with the axle in there using an alcohol and graphite mix. I saw it on YouTube and *thought* it was a good idea. After I got on here, I found out that it was severely frowned upon and NONE of the top racers were using it. It creates a graphite bushing in the inner hub area of the wheel.
Live and learn, live and learn.

Live and learn, live and learn. What's cool is you learned and didn't have to 'live' it by trying it. Most of the things I've learned here is what not to do. Just as valuable.
