My son liked a wrap decal with a 2 color random " color effect" on it from the hobby store but he wants to paint it himself. I read about the water drop effect and he wanted to try it to duplicate the decal. My question is has anyone ever tried it with the duplicolor lacquer? This is a good video and in it the guys states "must use enamel". Here's a nice one with pics and using 3 colors. I assume this is enamel automotive paint. www.carsofabq.com/water_effect.htmIf the duplicolor doesn't work, can anyone turn me onto another method to get some kind of random paint effect?

I used the effect you are talking about on a car I call "Rain" it is blue faded to green with water drops in black. I just used regular spray paint and then glossed over after dry. You can see it on facebook at the CCRL page under photos cars. www.facebook.com/album.php?id=143311872388546&aid=37000#!/photo.php?fbid=143322145720852&set=a.143322052387528.37000.143311872388546&theater

Actually, I have to credit W for the idea. I got it from reading his post and then did more research. I was disappointed the pics were missing, glad the're back! Thanks for updating the link W Quite a few pics are missing from your posts by the way. W, Did you do this with enamel or duplicolor lacquer ?

Well guys, I answered my own question tonight. And I am pleased to announce that this paint trick does indeed work with duplicolor lacquer! We got good results. No quite as nice as W but we are very pleased! It looks pretty sweet!
Went out and picked up some primer filler, blue metallic, black, and some clear. Taught my son how to spray paint and we finished all of the painting in the garage tonight running a kerosene heater for warmth! primer, 3 coats color, 1 coat black, and 4 coats of clear in 8 hours total. This included dinner and lots of breaks in between! I wasn't expecting the paint job he turned out. No one will believe he did it all himself! I will post pics of the car soon in the pics sections.
