Well, I just watched my copy of 30 Years in 30 Minutes. I learned a few new tricks. I new about "The Block" and testify of it's value. I was impressed with the ideas for pouring lead and pre-weighing the car / weight combination. I've been a cabinet maker for 38 years and was still impressed with Glen's techniques. Well done video Steve Naylor Aline Performance Well said, took the words out of my mouth (but said them better). Bubba p.s. So I'm watching the video and my wife looks up from her laptop, observes the portion where Glenn's drilling holes using the Block, then she looks over at me and says (while giving me the look) "well this all seems eerily familiar". p.p.s. So I'm watching the end of the video when the 5 year old walks in, sees the video where Glenn's carrying the car into the room with the track, then he looks over at me and points at the TV while saying with a smile on his face "hey, I know that track".

Watched my copy last night. I would have taken his word he can build a sub 3.0 car in 30 minutes. Would have liked to see what was done to the wheels and axles to become "Edge" products.
Regarding the routing of the weight cavaties, will a laminate trimmer (palm size router) work great as well? Not all of these trimmers have 1/8" collets. What 1/4" bit should I use if it's not too big; straight flute, left spiral, right spiral, dual spiral?
Regarding the axle holes, were the fronts not canted?
Thanks!

Front cant is due to bent axle.

What height from the bottom were the front axle holes drilled?
What height were the rear axle holes drilled?

I have always used a dremel tool. the small router should work. You can always practice on a scrap piece...
Glenn most likely drilled the holes at:
Rears 5/32" DFW 1/16" raised wheel slightly higher than 1/16"
Glenn mentions about 1/8" higher than DFW.
Rears are canted using the provided rod... aprox 2.5 degrees
Fronts are straight.
Wheels and axles are Edge Equipped. Pre-bent axle on front DFW for cant. Likely bent 3-4 degrees.
Sweet video and sweet car...

i do not like your poll. while i did vote the 14th vote for inspirational . I got your video yesterday after noon the 16th right before i had to go pick up my son from school at 3:20 and I gave it to my 8 year old 3rd grader when we were leaving school an hour and a half after the bell rang. I had to race him around the track i walked 4 laps he ran 5 laps and my 4 year old daughter ran 2 laps with this done they then wanted to play on play ground and i said if they run we will stay and play (luckily i had paint and The 409 Chevy engine from my shoe box that i never finished in my pocket. so i painted and they played i ended up getting one valve cover on when it was time to leave at dusk on the way to the car i gave him the DVD he is just starting to read so anything to perk his interest i told him to tell me what it was. He was hoping to play it in the car but i told him it wasn't a CD but a DVD and would have to wait till we got home. We turned PBS kids on for the 4 year old and he and i went to the TV in my room We finished around 6:30 wow he loved it he wanted to build his car in the next 30 minutes. i had to say he needed to due homework and go to bed. he had learned a lot and wanted to go sub 3 he was confident that now he could win the blue grass national i said he will be faster next year but the competition would be tough as I'm sure a lot of the people will have seen this video also. so yes the video was inspirational and unique but it was more. i wanted to see it again and will no doubt watch it over and over again and it does leave me wanting more. i again cant wait for the painting video i also would like to see a video to combat the you can only use whats in the cub scout box rule on axle prep and wheel prep we have a lope hole were we could lighten our own wheels but not buy after market wheels. i would like to change my vote to awesome!!! oh and another thing my son noticed was that he didn't have the use of a belt sander and that i had better get him one!

Jevans, How with they know if you or someone else lightened the wheels? Couldn't you buy Jewkes Stock wheels then remove a sliver of plastic and still say you yourself lightened the wheels some? Maybe you could post your rules? If your not supposed to buy lightened wheels couldn't Glenn give you a set of wheels then you could send a donation to PDDR for support and inspiration? ;D

i love racing and believe in the stock car mentality of bending the rules and seeing if they can catch me. is that why they ran moonshine? But now that I am in charge of our packs pwd and assistant scout master and taking their training courses I Would sleep better during the day if i learned to lighten the wheels that come in the scout box. i know its my own hang up but i have to look in the mirror. Racing here and other places is a different story. ;D ;D ;D

I just don't see how an judge can look at a lightened wheel and say - hey you couldn't have possibly had the skill to lighten these wheels? You can't go to his house for him to prove how it was done. Either the rules would ban lightened wheels or not. This is just my opinion and I'm not forcing it on you. This is why I would like to read the rules.

The rules could say. You can only lighten a BSA wheel. It probably doesn't say that you can't lighten an already lightened BSA wheel.
