For the doubters of the Jewkes Bros. I know from PERSONAL experience of their honesty, true love of gravity racing and both willingness and ABILITY to help other pineheads! I ALSO FEEL THE SAME for "Doc" Jobe. I happen to have had the same opinion of "Doc" as I do of the Jewkes Bros. He has offered UNLIMITED information and even went so far as sending basically every product (not the book, but I would never ask or expect that) he offers, at no charge. Just sent them to me, unasked. Out of the kindness of his heart and true belief in sharing info he believes in (his stipulation was that I teach youngsters the theories and techniques, which I've tried to do) that makes all the pwd boards the great source of info and comradery. Just as the Jewkes Bros., Randy @ Max V, the folks at Pinewood Extreme, DerbyWorX, and Doc Jobe, etc. have all made me better. So have the "quacks", flamers, etc. I also know that I've not mentioned the other individuals who have posted ideas and suggestions that have made probably ALL of us better at this than we were. I know I've always tried to be modest and not appear arrogant. I'm a good communicator 10% talk - 90% listen.
I appreciate that at least one of the ebay sellers came forward and admitted he can learn from the folks here. Welcome RJC.

Hey! I never claimed on my auctions to be a GURU at this .. I am not to ashamed to say I learned something...I have failed a lot at this to get to the point I am at now, and will fail a lot more. I did want to give an update though. Since times vary depending on track type, length, sensor placement etc, the ACTUAL times dont mean too much, so it has to be relative. My car that raced in the video ran a 2.580 on my 32 ft track. The day I timed it, I timed about 30 of my cars (AWANA and BSA) all different styles, wheel types, wheel bases etc. Out of all the runs and all the different lanes, the AVERAGE time that day was a 2.584. I have had reports of some of those winning, some of NO reports, then of course this one, which I sold for $39. With the help of Glenn (regarding tuning) I set up my 8 ft board and had it levelled left to right with a slope at the starting point (one end). I drew a center line, and one 2 inches to either side, then ran the car and made several adjustments to keep the car as much b/t the lines as possible. Today, I ran several cars, all on every lane. The average of ALL my runs was 2.494.. Ive only made a few moderate changes on the building of the cars. The most was on "tuning". The drop of 9/100, from what I have read is a HUGE drop when dealing with a tournament with 30-50 cars. In fact, of 3 cars I tested, which I made very similarily, 2 had a best of the EXACT SAME 2.493 and one 2.498. Not just improved but consistent! Thanks again for the help.. Now, Instead of just "selling" the cars, Im beginning to feel confident that I have provided somebody with their "money's worth" . Thanks to CLM's stencils, Im also able to make the cars look nicer. As far as the consumer reports, they do not condemn or criticize the products...they give ratings based on tests, trials, studies etc. They post their results and let the consumer decide..The lower cost to some people may be worth the lower quality of product.
ANYWAY, I myself since the original test here have tried really hard to promote my cars in a way which do NOT offend other sellers. I also try to avoid sentence after sentence of "WHY MY CARS ARE SO FAST" or "HOW GREAT MY CARS ARE" My testimonials are REAL, not made up. I have noticed some listings getting out of control with "I sell the most" or "I really know how to build a fast car" or "Im a Master pro" etc.. You get the drift.
Glenn's advice on tuning has helped me a LOT with reducing the times. Im down an average of 5/100's on my cars compared to the bronze one in the vid...That is on a 32 ft track.. the times on a longer track are probably closer to 8/100's or a tenth..just by better tuning. They continue to get better, but it is NOT of myself, it has come with lots of reading, advice, and EVEN MORE MESSUPS!!
Thanks guys! RC
