Post Quick Questions and Comments
Vitamin K: I'd love to see a video of your putty technique, if you were so inclined. Feb 23, 2018 8:35:34 GMT -7
pony: Don't over heat the axle. I did that once too and I had to resand the axle. Two seconds of the flame is all I did. I hold the axle in the drill chuck, heat it then immediately spin it against the silly putty. I then wipe the axle down by hand. Feb 23, 2018 22:02:58 GMT -7
pony: I do the same technique with the hard ski waxes which I use a lot. You can heat the axle or if you don't want to use the heat just hold the hard ski wax against the spinning axle. Use high speed. The ski wax transfers by friction and the heat of the spin. Feb 23, 2018 22:06:02 GMT -7
pony: Remember though you still need some form of silicone on the axle after the ski wax. Plastics on steel always needs silicone. I don't have the technical know how to do a video and post it. It's the same process as polishing compounds and polishing wheels. Feb 23, 2018 22:09:47 GMT -7
pony: In everyday Cub scout races the Jig or the Max-Pro is good enough. The Silly Putty was only .001 faster. If the Silly Putty feels old and dried out I'd try to get some more and just use the heat of the spinning axle to get it to transfer over to the axle. Feb 23, 2018 23:45:42 GMT -7
corvid: Thanks for clarifying and the additional great info and best of luck racing today! Feb 24, 2018 9:53:58 GMT -7
pony: Has anyone had trouble with their timers? Mine seems to have lost .015 or all my cars are dogs. Feb 28, 2018 7:19:58 GMT -7
Zeebzob: Pony, I would check the gate first. I have found the gate to be a cause of a sudden time discrepancy. Mar 1, 2018 7:54:43 GMT -7
pony: Thanks, Zeeb. I did work on the gate prior to this loss of speed or time. It's the way of the world, you try to fix something and you screw up something else. Mar 1, 2018 8:40:34 GMT -7
pony: Glenn's razor wheels ruled the track at nationals again. Apr 28, 2018 19:14:24 GMT -7
hacksaw: Where is the 2018 race schedule? May 19, 2018 19:08:08 GMT -7
Gone Racing: I agree with Pony. Hard to beat Glenn's razor wheels. Aug 31, 2018 6:33:18 GMT -7
cherokeechuck: Hey al just saying hi and hoping to have a series here soon.... Nov 29, 2018 21:05:36 GMT -7
Gone Racing: Hey Pony! Where you been? Dec 30, 2018 17:58:25 GMT -7
pony: Been working on some writing projects. My sons and I attempt to write screenplays, but haven't sold any yet. No agent. It's tough. Jan 1, 2019 16:32:57 GMT -7
2FAST4U: keep trying eric... :) Feb 8, 2019 16:36:43 GMT -7
Vitamin K: Write a screenplay about a big Pinewood Derby race. ;) Mar 11, 2019 7:43:52 GMT -7
emersonfastcars: hey guys! Apr 1, 2019 18:33:16 GMT -7
2FAST4U: Hey Emerson 8-) Apr 21, 2019 20:55:14 GMT -7
Gone Racing: Congratulations to Pony! Great showing at Nationals. Hope you will find time to race more often. May 7, 2019 17:22:43 GMT -7
